Conversion to the Dark Side

Well, my conversion to the Dark Side™ is nearly complete. I have signed up on Twitter.
In my defense, I must note that I do not intend to broadcast anything I’m currently doing. I’ll let people know by actually talking with them.
As much of a techie as I am in my work, I’m not an early-adopter of any technological wizardry. I think a lot of it is ultra-cool, but until I have an actual use for them in my life, I don’t need more toys. I have plenty of other stuff to play with. Like my wife.
My primary intent for Twitter is to see how useful it is, to me, as a breaking news device. Initially, I’m following CNN and a local news service. I don’t have any trouble waiting to read the news or see it on TV. However, this new social networking bug I’ve got needs to run its course. And since the kids goaded urged me into providing texting capabilities on our phone plan, and Twitter is essentially free for the moment, why not give it a try?
It was interesting that in the first day I received three requests to be “followed.” Two of them were from “single girls” and one was from an account that has been suspended by Twitter. Nice, huh?
But now I find that my flip phone may be inadequate. I never did any texting, but with the addition of that to our account, I feel a need to actually use the service. Pushing out a message on a 10-digit keypad is not my idea of a good time. So, since my cell contract is long gone, and my current phone is starting to break down, now would be a good time for a new phone.
Although my preference was for another flip phone, I settled on the Samsung Impression. Just once I’ll try the sexy new fashion, so I purchased one today. Interesting. It will take some time to get used to. I do like the larger display — more room for information without reducing things to indecipherable hieroglyphs.
My son is jealous that it’s a slider and has a physical QWERTY keyboard (tiny though it is) for texting. He’s been trying to figure out how to get me to trade for his current phone. But in the event I don’t like it, Pam gets the right of first rejection for a trade.
So, my fall is nearly complete. It may be only a matter of time before I complete my conversion to the Dark Side and get an account on Second Life.

You should follow Fox news if you want the truth as I perceive it.
